New Board will face the challenges to develop Ju-Jitsu African Union

Ju-Jitsu African Union (“JJAFU”) held its electoral General Assembly on 19th August 2016 at Benoni, South Africa.

The JJAFU General Assembly in unity unanimously voted the composition of the new JJAFU Board to carry on, to enhance and to improve the development and promotion of Ju-Jitsu on the African Continent.

President:                                                              Nuvin PROAG [MRI]

Vice President (Region Middle Africa):                 Colince TATSA TCHINDA [CMR]

Vice President (Region Eastern Africa):                Dr. Tsegaye DEGINEH [ETH]

Vice President (Region Western Africa):              Fall MACODE [CIV]

Vice President (Region Northern Africa):             Narjes BEN BOUGUERRA [TUN]

Vice President (Region Southern Africa):             Sam TONKIN [RSA]

General Secretary:                                                Ibrahim MADAI BOUKAR [NIG]

Treasurer:                                                              Cheikh Tidiane FALL [SEN]

Assistant Treasurer:                                              Zoumana DIAKITE [MLI]

The new President, Nuvin Proag, a Barrister/Lawyer by profession stated that Africa faces many challenges which have to be met more than ever and as soon as possible. They are among others (i) improving the level of African athletes, coaches and referees (ii) the issue of Olympic recognition (iii) the issue of payment of the JJIF annual membership fee (iv) the issue of the status and autonomy of member federations (v) the issue of Visa which is often an obstacle for African athletes to participate in international meets.

Mr Proag stated that these objectives and issues can only be met if everybody within the Board and within Africa but also outside the frontiers of Africa (other Continental Unions, Sponsors and Partners) work together hand in hand as a team. His approach shall be to look at Ju-Jitsu in Africa in the wider global context, as he firmly believes that the interests of an individual member of a family (JJAFU) is better served when the interests of the family as a whole (JJIF worldwide) are looked at. This, he stated,  tallies well with JJIF’s President's Mr Panagiotis Theodoropoulos idea that a Union President must be a JJIF Board's Vice-President (which idea has now been embodied in the latest JJIF statutes).

Mr Proag added that he shall manage JJAFU in a most efficient way, in the best interests of the Union, the African athletes and JJIF with all the necessary safeguards in accordance with well-established principles of good governance.

The 5th African Championships were also held on the 20th August 2016.
