What is your biggest accomplishment in Ju-Jitsu?

My most important achievement is when I was crowned the world champion in 2015 in the Fighting Category. But each of the world medals in the three modalities have been crucial in my life, for each one there is a big story behind.

What one or two things do you currently do in your training that are keys to your success?

First have a coach to take you on the right path that motivates you to persist regardless of the difficulties and adversities that arise. Second the balance between physical preparation, resting and free time.

How much did you train a week?

It depends on the season, normally I am training 30 hours a week.

How do you set your goals?

I have big personal dreams and goals. I want to be a five-time champion in the Pan-American Championships and if the opportunity is given in the future also an Olympic champion. It is a long way and we must look at the goals step by step, along with the coaches and the Colombian Olympic Committee every quarter.

Have you experienced a breakthrough, and if so, what led to it?

When I first started it was the desire to leave the »hood« and learn new things, with thirst for victory.  When I became world champion I entered a state of comfort. When my daughter arrived, I felt again the thrive to achieve greatness, to dedicate myself to the sport in full and realized that results are needed not only for my well-being but also that of my family.

What was the best advice that you were ever given?

Dream as big as you can, but always with love in your heart and your feet on the ground.

Do you have a saying or motto that you live your life by?

I live with 5 mottos:

-Respect the Seven Principles of Bushido, because that’s how I got where I am today

- Money doesn't buy dreams

-There is no greater satisfaction that work completed

- At the end of the road the most important thing is the friends we make and the experiences we live.

Do you have some special ritual before competition?

My favorite thing is to warm up by dancing, I break dance. I also carry a piece of clothing that belongs to my daughter to remind myself who I fight for.

Anything else you'd liked to share?

I am passionate for this sport and is what I always wanted to do. I wouldn't change it, I love to participate in all the categories. In a near future I would like to achieve a career in MMA.
