International Referee Course Ne-Waza

The Instructors of the Referee Course were Linus Bruhin (World A Referee, Switzerland) and Cory Vacarenco (World A Referee, Romania), with the very useful help of the additional Instructors from the international Ne-Waza Seminar: Joe Thumfart (JJIF Sports Director, Germany), Alex Paz (JJAU Head of referee) and Rodrigo Valerio (both instructors in the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation, Abu Dhabi).                   

The schedule of the Referee Course was:

- Friday, January 16^th 2015: 15:00 - 17:00 - Theory / 18:00 - 20:00 - Practical Work about the new Rules

- Saturday, January 17^th 2015: 10:00 - 12:00 / 15:00 - 17:00 - Practical Work and Questions / 20:00 - 21:00 - Theoretical Test

- Sunday, January 18^th 2015: 10:00 - 13:00 - Practical Test (at the small Tournament)

The basis of the Referee Course were the very new Ne-Waza Rules (with the date of January 1^st 2015). They have a lot of changes to the Competition Rules (last Version 2.5 from June 17^th 2014), and they are close to the Rules of Brasilian Ju-Jitsu. So there were a lot of questions during the practical work and the analysis / dicussion of different moves and situations together with fighters. A special problem was to bring together the „culture“ of the Refereeing BJJ and JJIF. To know the Competition Rules and to act as a Referee are not just the same - it’s both needed (and important for the test). And a good knowledge of english and a study of the JJIF-Competition Rules are important for Referees in the JJIF.

10 Referees passed the Theoretical Test and the Practical Test, so they got the International License for Ne-Waza:
